Diggers Rest, Wyndham and Parry Creek Reserve

Decided for a change of scenery and headed for Diggers Rest Station. Diggers is a small working cattle station that has opened up for travellers after running some horse treks. While it was quite there, this was a good change to El Questro. There were animals everywhere, horses, goats, dogs, emus and of course a rooster waking everyone at 4.30 am. Tried some fishing and was helped by the caretaker (owner was on a 7 day horse ride) who showed me how to throw a net for live bait. Probably needed another few months to master this. They also took us and another family on an impromptu sunset tour over to a billabong nearby in a couple of the station utes. They were very hospitable, nothing was too much trouble. From here went to Wyndham for the day. Very interesting town with lots of history. They have a great museum and the five rivers lookout should not be missed. (the Ord, King, Durak, Forest and Pentecost)
Diggers Rest Station was use for all the cattle mustering and billabong scenes for the movie Australia in 2007.

Also made a couple of nights at the Parry Reserve. Had a great sighting of a large saltwater croc looking for morning tea….ducks. He tried for about 30min and seemed out of luck. Apparently to previous day he was successful. Where we camped there was also plenty of frogs for the boys to catch, plus a warning from the owner to watch out for snakes. Of course we saw one straight away, but only a whip snake as the browns have all succumbed to the dreaded cane toad.

In Kununurra now. Washing and shopping done, boys have done some schoolwork. Car and trailer are pack to the roof with supplies as we will be on the road for approximately 3 weeks before getting into Derby. All going well we will see the Mitchell Fall and then possibly Kalumburu if the road is ok. Then back to the Gibb. Might have range in Kalumburu so will update then.

the ute on the right had not been started for 12 months. Could not turn it off when parked, and of course no brakes!

  1. Great to hear the trip is going so well. I like what you have done to the ute Woodsy but didn't think you'd cut the whole top off it and mount the spares on the front.
Keep up the updates where possible. You'd be surprised how many people are following you and talking about it..and being heaps jealous.

  2. Hi Woodsey's
Where are you? We loved the Gibb and everything in between especially Cape Leveque stayed at Middle Lagoon. Port Smith is a good stay rather than Barn Hill. 80 mile beach good but expensive. In port headland on our way to Millsstream. Take care Elese Paul Noah and Jess x
